Lithuania to host UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2024

Lithuania will host the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship in 2024, the Lithuanian Football Federation said on Tuesday.

Such a decision was made by the UEFA Executive Committee during its Monday meeting in Switzerland.

“It is great appreciation and honor for the whole football community. It shows that we are working in the right direction and we can host top-level football in Lithuania. We hope it will be a great incentive for the improvement of football infrastructure and preparation for the championship,” Edgaras Stankevicius, the LFF’s secretary general, said.

“I would like to thank the team that worked hard on the application and now we all see the result of their successful work,” he added.

It will not be the first major international football event hosted by Lithuania. The country was chosen for the first time to organize the UEFA European Men’s Under-19 Championship in 2014 and it also hosted the UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship in 2018.

Lithuania will also host the FIFA Futsal World Cup in the fall.

“We are grateful to the UEFA for their expressed great confidence. They are actively watching our work and the decision to entrust the organization of such an important event is great appreciation of the work done,” LFF President Tomas Danilevicius said.

Under the plan, the UEFA European Women’s Under-19 Championship should take place in Kaunas, Alytus, Marijampole and Jonava.
