Kaunas University of Technology had its beginning on 16 February 1922, when the University of Lithuania and its technical faculties were established.
The development of Lithuanian scientific ideas continued in the first Lithuanian independent technical school of higher education (in 1950–1990 titled Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (KPI)). It was famous for the ultrasound and vibrotechnics laboratories, and scientific research of textiles.
In 1990 KTU regained its status of the university and took a path of rapid reforms of studies and research. The University continues to pursue sustainable partnership of science, business and industry, develops and implements new ideas, innovations and inventions.
Since 1992 more than 144 thousand graduates graduated from the university.

Admission procedure
- Apply for the Mediation letter
- Submit an application electronically through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS).
submit these documents:
- Valid travel document.
- Printout from the bank, showing sufficient amount of money
- Declaration of residence place in Lithuania
- Police Clearance Certificate
- Proof of Health Insurance
- Through the application system you will also book the visit time to the Migration Office. You have to make the appointment in person within 4 months from the date of submission of the application to the MIGRIS and submit the biometric data, the original travel document and original or duly certified copies of the other documents listed above.
- Pay the application fee
- Once the decision to issue TRP is given by the Migration Department of Lithuania, it is sent to your indicated e-mail address and students have to take his/her TRP card on the last day when his/her visa/TRP expires.

Admission procedure
- Choose a program and a research topic
- Fill in the application online and upload all required documents:
- Copy of ID card or passport
- Curriculum Vitae
- Copy of application fee payment
- Official legalized Bachelor’s and Master’s diplomas or a higher education degree equivalents and academic transcripts
- References by two academic referees or researchers from the relevant field of science
- Reference by the supervisor of the research topic (if required for a certain program)
- List of scientific publications
- Copies of scientific publications
- Research proposal on the selected topic (if required for a certain program)
- Certificate of English proficiency: IELTS; TOEFL; ECFR, or equivalent
- Other relevant documents
- Participate in motivational interview (mandatory) at Kaunas University of Technology or via Internet
- Sign your learning agreement with Kaunas University of Technology
(Passport or ID is required, as well as originals or apostilled/notarized copies of diplomas).

In total KTU has 12 dormitories where all undergraduate, master ‘s and PhD students, as well as University guests and staff may be accommodated.
