Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) is named after the patriarch of Lithuania ‘s Constitutional Law Professor Mykolas Romeris (1880-1945).
MRU – the largest social sciences specialized university in Lithuania, whose most prominent studies and research areas are: law, public security and public administration.
The University has capable and significant core educational science, economics, humanities, communication, politics, and psychology, sociology, and management areas.
Social science studies programs dominate the MRU studies program portfolio (95% of all studies portfolio – AIKOS database).
These Faculties operate at the University:
- Law School;
- Public Security Academy (Kaunas);
- Faculty of Human and Social Studies;
- Faculty of Public Governance and Business.
There are about 7,500 students and auditors studying at the University.
MRU implements meaningful international and national studies and research projects (on average about 50 projects per year).
The European Commission funded international study, “Creating a Culture of Social Innovation in Higher Education” found that MRU is the best university to develop social innovation among several hundred universities in Central and Eastern Europe.
In 2010 Mykolas Romeris University was awarded with the Diploma Supplement Label which indicates that the Diploma Supplement of MRU meets the European Commission’s, the Council of Europe’s and UNESCO/CEPER’ created sample.
In 2012 Mykolas Romeris University was awarded with ECTS Label. The label raises the profile of the institution a transparent and reliable partner in European and international cooperation (awarded only 64 institutions in Europe, only 2 in Lithuania). It is one of the most important signs attesting to a high quality of studies at the University.

Admission procedure
- Applicants are required to submit an application form
- All applicants are required to take part in a motivational interview with the Committee members.
- The Committee generates a competitive score according to the selection criteria and makes priority lists of applicants for each partner institution’s dissertation topics.
- In three days after the announcement of competition results, applicants can submit a motivated appeal to the Committee, and upon receiving a negative response, in three days, can appeal to the head of the doctoral institution, to which doctoral studies they applied.
- After the final list of invited candidates is announced, applicants who were not accepted into state-funded study places, but who meet the requirements for doctoral studies, can choose fee-paying doctoral study places and study paying a tuition fee set by a doctoral institution.
- Candidates invited to doctoral studies sign a bilateral contract with the doctoral institution, and the Rector’s order is issued on their acceptance to doctoral studies.
- If, after the admission process is over, there are free study places left, a second round of admission can be organized, which is carried out following the same procedure.
