Lithuanian airport reps, health specialists to discuss actions over situation in Italy

As the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has reached 152 in Italy, representatives of Lithuanian airports are meeting with specialists from the National Public Health Center to discuss additional protection measures at Lithuania’s airports.

“We are soon meeting with NPHC specialists who are on watch at airports and we will discuss additional possibilities I wouldn’t want to specify as we still need to decide. But we will speak about additional actions,” Tada Vasiliauskas, spokesman for the airport operator in Lithuania, told BNS.

Flight to and from Italy are yet taking place regularly under the schedule, he said.

Angelo Borrelli, head of Italy’s civil protection department, said on Sunday three people had died from the coronavirus in Italy. The Italian authorities have since Sunday taken large-scale measures to prevent the spread of the virus in the country, with several northern villages popular with tourists closed, alongside the Milan Cathedral and St Mark’s Basilica, and the Venetian Carnival cancelled.

Italy was the first among European countries in late January to declare a state of emergency over the COVID-19 virus, stating that this way it aimed at stepping up preparations for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus.
