Car parades replace traditional March 11 nationalist march in Lithuania

Due to the ongoing pandemic, car parades in several Lithuanian cities on Thursday replaced the traditional nationalist march organized in Vilnius on March 11 when Lithuania marks its Day of the Restoration of Independence.

Some 200 cars gathered outside the Litexpo exposition center in Vilnius. The majority of participants decorated their cars with Lithuania’s flags, and quite a number of them were with families and kids. There were also motorcycles and quadrocycles in attendance.

The organizers of such parades said similar events also took place in other Lithuanian cities.

Traditionally, nationalists hold a march in Vilnius on March 11, often criticized for their nationalist chants.

Lithuania restored its independence on March 11, 1990.
