Manuscript of May 3rd Constitution to be displayed in Vilnius

The manuscripts of Constitution of 3 May 1791 and the Mutual Pledge will be exhibited at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius in October, Lithuania’s Culture Ministry announced on Monday.

Held to mark the 230th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of 3 May 1791 and the Mutual Pledge, the international exhibition will also include portraits of many statesmen and exhibits of that time.

This and other issued were on Monday discussed by Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys and his visiting Polish counterpart Piotr Glinski.

Signed on May 3, 1791, the Constitution of 3 May is the first written constitution in Europe and the second written constitution in the world, importantly, declaring respect for human rights.
