Lithuania to provide EUR 100,000 in humanitarian aid to Yemen

Lithuania will allocate 100,000 euros for humanitarian aid to Yemen, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday.

Lithuania announced its donation to the UN Yemen Humanitarian Fund during Monday’s high-level virtual pledging conference co-hosted by Sweden and Switzerland.

Lithuanian Deputy Foreign Minister Mantas Adomenas described the humanitarian situation in Yemen as “catastrophic”.

The six-year civil war in Yemen has killed hundreds of thousands of people and led to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, 20.7 million people in Yemen, or over 66 percent of the Arab country’s population, depend on international humanitarian aid to survive.

Lithuania has allocated a total of 285,000 euros to Yemen since 2014.
