Šiauliai State College
HISTORY
Šiauliai State College is the only state higher educational institution in Šiauliai county that provides higher college education.
The College started its operation in 2002 by the order of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania to merge Šiauliai Higher School of Medicine and Šiauliai Higher Technical School.
These higher schools in Šiauliai had their own history. In 1946-1991 there was a Nursing School in the town which in 1991 became a High School of Medicine. In 1961-1991 there was Politechnic School in Šiauliai, which in 1991 became Higher Technical School.
In 2002 Šiauliai Higher Technical School became the Faculty of Business and Technology of Šiauliai College and Šiauliai Higher School of Medicine – Faculty of Health Care of Šiauliai College. 10 higher education non-university study programs were carried out in the two faculties of Šiauliai College in 2002-2003. Throughout the entire life of the College, the number of studies programmes has almost tripled corresponding to labor market needs.
In 2004 the College has been awarded Erasmus University Charter.
In 2005 the College began to publish a collection of scientific articles magazine “Professional Studies: Theory and Practice”. Since 2013 the magazine is indexed in the EBSCO database. In 2016 scientific magazine “Professional Studies: Theory and Practice” began to be published in cooperation with the Tallinn University of Applied Sciences and is published in English only.
In 2006 The Center for Quality Assessment in Higher Education assessed the quality of all areas of the College’s activity and gave positive evaluation. Šiauliai College has been granted the right to train for professional bachelor’s degree by the Order No. 666 of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania on 16 April 2007.
On 14 April 2010 under the Resolution No. 241 by the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, State budgetary institution Šiauliai College was reorganized into a public institution – Šiauliai State College.
Since 2012 Šiauliai State College is a member of the Global Compact Network, initiated by the United Nations, and reports annually to the public on social responsibility of its activity.
Šiauliai State College has proved that during more than ten years of its activity it has been acknowledged to be a Higher School in which qualified studies have been pursued. The studies are practice – orientated; modern and democratic environment of College has been created.
Šiauliai State College offers more than 20 study programmes for its students. The programmes include biomedical, social and technological fields. Such a wide spectrum of study programmes has been indicated by needs of labor market and perspectives of the development.

1. Admission requirements
1.1 The citizens of foreign countries – non-European Union member countries or other European Economic Area countries – are admitted to the Šiauliai State College (hereinafter – the College) in accordance with the procedure laid down in these rules.
1.2 Persons are admitted with secondary education and at least 18 years of age.
1.3 There are no entrance exams.
1.4 The applicants have to know the foreign language in which the studies will be carried out, at no lesser than B1 level (according to the European language levels). Advantage – certificate of International Foreign language exam (IELTS not less than 5,0 or equivalent).
1.5. The study programme may be pursued in full-time mode of study (duration of studies 3 years, General Practise Nursing – 3,5 years) or in part-time mode of study (duration of studies 4 years):
1.5.1. full-time and part-time studies are carried out in English, and if necessary – in Russian; 1.5.2. the study programme is pursued in part-time mode of study for students with professional qualification who have chosen studies in Russian;
1.5.3. optimal number of students in an academic group – 15. If there is a smaller number of students, individual studies are organized.
1.6. There is a tuition fee. The tuition free for foreign students is defined in the College Council’s Resolution.
2. Required documents
· notarized copy of the secondary education document and its supplements
· copy of international passport
· statement by the Centre of Quality Assurance in Higher Education (CQAHE) on the Academic Recognition of Foreign Qualification
· application to study
· a motivational letter (filled online www.applyonline.svako.lt or free text submitted to the College Admission Office)
· two photos (3×4 cm)
· a copy of the document verifying that the last name was changed (in case there is a different last name in any of the documents)
· Documents must be submitted in either Lithuanian, English or Russian to the College Admission Office (hereinafter – the Admission Office). If the documents are in another language, they have to be officially translated into Lithuanian, English or Russian. Copies of the documents have to be submitted to the Admission Office via email. Originals have to be shown at upon the arrival.

v required documents must be submitted to the Admission Office no later than 1.5 months before the beginning of studies.
3. Accomodation
Šiauliai State College has two dormitories. Monthly fee – 130 Eur per place in a dormitory. The first payment for dormitory accommodation must be paid after signing the dormitory stay agreement. By the 25th of each month payment is due for the following month. A student may pay for a few months in advance.
